Transparent, glassy and lustrous Quartz finely dusted with Hematite in an eye-catching red color.  This is a top quality Hematite Quartz due to its transparency and high lustre, very rarely seen.  Like other minerals with a cubic crystal structure, Galena of this piece shows an interesting and distinct tetrahedral crystal habit.  Aesthetically perched on a group of Galena crystals, a golden color Barite is a highlight of this piece.  Chalcopyrite can also be observed at the bottom of the specimen.
 
The prevalence of Hematite in red color is due to oxidized iron in general.  Hematite had been used as red pigment for paintings at Gramalote, an early Initial Period (1500–1200 cal. B.C.) maritime community in the north coast of Peru.
